Ana Witkowski/ Dr. Bostrom Week 5

This week has been the Fourth of July and then a little long weekend vacation, so not around much this week! It was great to spend the fourth in the city, to see the fireworks.

We learned about the specifics of our end of immersion presentations, which was nice to be able to prepare for that going forward.

This week, however, really emphasized the bureaucracy and the incredible amount of rules that the hospital has to follow in order to do research. My IRB has been so close to being finalized for the last four months, and yet this week it feels like I basically need to redo half of it because it took so long to get approved the funding for it fell through. I definitely have a new appreciation for clinical research and the people who work in that area of the field! I’m hoping it will at least get approved before I leave, but I have said that for the last three months fairly consistently.

I am looking forward to next week though - I will be shadowing in the human gait analysis lab, and while I am still new to the field of gait analysis in animals, I am excited to learn about the benefits of the gait analyzer for patients and also just what research they can do with it!
