Andi Garcia-Ortiz/Dr. Carli: Week 5 (July 5th - 7th, 2023)

Wednesday (July 5th, 2023)

I started the day in the PJI lab with Christina Chao. We redid our vancomycin standard curve with 1X PBS as our diluting medium (instead of distilled water). In OR practice, PBS is standard for dilutions of vancomycin. We tested zero volume through 15 volume of vancomycin in the curve. The results were very linear with an R^2 value of 0.991. At 3pm, I went to Starr 8A-05 to attend the summer immersion weekly meeting. We ate breakfast and discussed the end-of-term presentation. I will present a 4-minute talk on my translational research on July 18, 2023.

Thursday (July 6th, 2023)

Today is a PJI lab day again. We plan on running our MIC again with finer concentration points. We are also planning out our cement elution studies for the upcoming weeks. I also initiated the process of shadowing a cosmetic surgery by Dr. Jason Spector. He focuses on plastic reconstruction surgeries at Weill Cornell.

Friday (July 7th, 2023)

I have a meeting with Dr. Fernando Quevedo Gonzalez in the HSS Biomechanics Research building. The meeting is focused on the orthopedic computational modeling of various systems. We worked through his computational workflow with 3D slicer, DX, abaqus, and python codes. I am very interested in integrating this workflow into my own thesis work back in Ithaca. I have to figure out if Cornell provides Abaqus licenses already. I am thinking of swapping Ansys or Abaqus for my computational work.
